Radnor Democrats Oppose Nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh

WHEREAS President Donald Trump has nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh for a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court'and


WHEREAS Judge Brett Kavanaugh has opposed allowing an undocumented minor to leave her detention facility to obtain an abortion (Garza v. Hargan, 874 F. 3d 735 [D.C. Cir., 2017], Azar v. Garza, 138 S. Ct. 1790 (2018); and


WHEREAS Judge Brett Kavanaugh opposed Dept. of Health and Human Services requiring a religious organization to give employees a notice about its opting out of contraception coverage (Priests for Life v. HHS, 808 F. 3d I [D.C. Cir. 2015]); and


WHEREAS Judge Brett Kavanuagh supported a new voter ID law for South Carolina, despite evidence that the law would have a disparate impact on racial minorities and was enacted with the intent of discriminating on the basis of race (So. Carolina v. US., 898 F. Supp. 2d 30 [D.D.C. 2012]); and


WHEREAS Judge Brett Kavanaugh opposed the District of Columbia's ban on semi­ automatic rifles, such as the AR-15, and handgun registration rules (Heller v. D.C., 670 F.3d 1244 [D.C. Cir. 2011]); and


WHEREAS Judge Brett Kavanaugh opposed EPA's interpretation of 'any air pollutant" to include greenhouse gases (Coalition/or Responsible Regulation v. EPA; Nos. 09- 1322); and


WHEREAS if confirmed, Judge Brett Kavanaugh will serve a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court; and


WHEREAS the Republican Judiciary Committee has refused to release records pertaining to his service in the Bush Administration;


THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Radnor Democratic Committee opposes the expedited confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court; and


AND THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Radnor Democratic Committee urges Democrats in Radnor Twp to contact Senators Toomey and Casey to oppose any confirmation hearings until Judge Kavanaugh's records during his service in the Bush Administration arereleased.
